Car alarms are marvellous things aren't they?

I can guarantee that the LED that you have in your fiesta cant really be seen from outside the car can it?

In this guide we show you how to move it to a more visible position without disturbing the alarm unit its self.

Tools Needed:

Small flat bladed screwdriver
Drill
6mm drill bit
5mm drill bit
Insulation Tape

And we have light

This is usually where the alarm LED is on most MK3 Fiestas, a switch blank in the centre panel.
It is visible but not really in your face visible from outside the car.

You need to pop out the switch blank with a screwdriver and remove the LED from the holder.
If the wire does not look long enough to reach the top of the dash, it will need to be extended, do this one wire at a time.

If you are feeling up to it, what about changing the colour of the LED from red to blue for example,
to give the impression that you have a higher spec alarm fitted.
You will need either a blue 12v flashing LED or a standard blue LED with a 420Ohm resister
fitted in line after the flasher circuit (Usually on the positive leg of the LED, Looks like a resistor)
Insulate all connections with tape or heatshrink.

old led

Here's where you will be putting the LED, the middle blanking plug on the dashboard.
Again pop this out with a screwdriver. Now drill a hole to suit the led holder in the middle of it,
usually a 5 or 6mm drill should do the trick.
Put the holder in and place to one side.

new place

Now its time for you to get a wire up to the middle of the dash, a little tricky but can be done.
Using the same 6mm drill bit, drill a hole on the inside of the cavity behind the blank at an angle so it holes the side of the cavity.

Remove the centre vents and drill a hole in the middle of the heater duct, the big plastic block near the top of the dash.

Bend a long metal rod (A coat hanger works good) to 45 degrees at the end, tape the LED to the rod and push it
through the hole in the black section and up to the side of the cavity, then simply push it home through the hole in the side of the cavity and out.
Remove the tape and pull the wire enough so it wont fall back into the dash as you remove the wire coat hanger.

vent hole inside

Place the LED into its holder and push the blanking plate with the LED back into the dash.
Arm the alarm and see it flash from a distance.
