A little luxury that you wont find in any fiesta of the mk3 age unless you were special and opted for them from new,
In this guide we will show you how to install electric, heated mirrors into the mk3 fiesta,
you will need parts from both a mk3 and mk4 fiesta, possibly even mk5's.
It's fairly straightforward honest
This guide is for the fiesta that has the electric window switches in the doors, not the centre console.
There is a variation of this guide for the older style loom.
Tools Needed:
screwdrivers (Various)
Socket set
Soldering equipment
knife
Dremal
Parts needed:
Mk4/5 Electric, heated mirrors
Mk4/5 Door looms and part of the car loom
Mk4/5 Interior trim plates

Lazy?
Well yes!
Applies to:
All MK3's With Manual Mirrors
Firstly lets start off with making the electric mirrors suitable for fitting to the mk3 fiesta.
Assuming that you have the later mk3.5 mirrors fitted to your car you will need to remove these from the car,
by taking off the door cards, removing the interior trim from the mirror and take out the 3 fixing bolts
while holding the mirror from the outside so it doesn't drop.
With the mirror from the car you will need to remove the base plate,
this is done by separating the case from the base, like you would when you push the mirrors in to get in a tight space.
Looking at the back of the mirror, where the adjuster is, there is a small screw that holds the
internals to the base. Remove this screw and release the claw type clip on the internals from the base,
you will have to wiggle it about to get it free but it can be done.
Do the exact same for the mk4/5 electric mirrors and simply swap the plates over
and re-screw them back down, so you are left with the mk4 internals onto the mk4 base plates.
As you can see there are a difference with the base plates due to ford redesigning the doors.
The left pic is the mk4 and the middle is the mk3.5, notice the point is rounded on the mk4 item.
If on your mk3.5 mirrors you have the colour-coded shells you will need to get
them off and swapped over to the mirrors.
To do this you will need to remove the mirror glass by putting your fingers inside
the casing on the end opposite to the base plate and using your finger,
simply push the retaining clips in and pop the glass out.
With the glass out you will notice 3 little screws that go through the internals to the case,
remove these and also remove the one from the end between the case and base.
Then wiggle the case free.
Repeat the above for the electric one but take note that there will be 2 wires behind the
glass that will need to be disconnected,
and you will be left with just the internals from the mirror like below.
Screw the electric part to the base and wiggle the case back on and secure tightly,
replace the glass making sure you connect the 2 wires up.
Repeat this for the other mirrors.
Wiring Up
With the mirrors now built up you can start on the wiring, here's where it starts for real.
You will need to get a door loom from a mk4/5 fiesta that has the electric mirrors and remove
all the door wiring including the rubber pipe and part of the wiring from inside the car.
The part of the door loom that you are looking for is like the pic below where
it has a 6 pinned multiplug and the wiring for the speakers.
Proceed to look at this wiring and remove the plastic covers, then pull away the rubber from the pipe/connector
With the rubber pulled away you now need to remove the following wires from the plug,
but first the white stopper need to be remove, simply push a screwdriver into the letterbox shaped holes,
twist and pull up and it should come apart. Using a small flat screwdriver,
prise the plastic away from the metal pins and pull the wires down and out.

You will then be left with the loose wires that can be pulled out from the pipe.
Notice that the black wire was not connected to any pin, this is the earth
and will also need to be removed. Start to strip back the black tape as far
as it needs to go to enable you to get the wires out and follow the black wire
to where it joins the rest of the black wires and cut it out.
Now move onto the inner part of the loom and especially the plugs and the little wires you left on.
Using the same tables and methods as above you need to remove the wires required
And here are the wires required from both sides
We will now start to put the new section of wiring into your existing door loom.
You will need to remove your original wiring from thee door, this is done by releasing
the pipe from the A pillar by twisting it and pulling it away, and the rest of the pipe needs
to be prised away from the door. Make sure that you unplug the speaker, central locking and
electric window motors, and then pull the loom free.
Grab hold of the rubber pipe and peel the rubber from the plastic end so that the wires are visible.
Tape the ends of the new wires together and push them through the rubber pipe,
(Use a tie wrap or metal rod if needed)
Use a small flat bladed screw driver and push it into the letterbox shaped hole in the end of
the connector, twist and pull out, this should in theory release the red part to enable you to
push the wires in from the rear.
Push all the wires that have metal ends in to the empty spaces in the plug until they click,
once that's has been done for all the wires, push the red end back in to secure the wires.
A suggestion here would be to make note of where you plug the wires into.
PThe black wire needs to be earthed so you must solder this to an existing brown wire in the loom.
With that complete you can now tape the loom back together making sure you put
the hard plastic protectors back on. And you will be left with what's shown below,
one last thing is not to put the rubber pipe back onto the end as yet.
Repeat the above for the opposite side and now move onto the car loom, you will need to remove this,
so please read the fitting of central locking guide but reverse it to remove the loom.
Look at the large plug hat goes into the A pillar and proceed to remove the end bung like above
Then plug the freshly made door loom into this connector and start to plug the individual
wires that you removed from the mk4 loom into the plug, taking note to make sure the colours match.
Once done, separate the plugs and put the bung back in.
Repeat for the other side.
From the drivers' side you will need to identify the orange/Yellow wire from the plug,
This is the power feed to the mirrors. This is permanently live, so will require a fuse.
Take your aux fuse holder that you got and clip it to the side of the boot pop switch fuse like so.
Now extend both wires so that they will reach the orange/Yellow wire you identified above,
solder one wire from the fuse holder to this and the other wire needs to be connected
to the permanent feed for the central locking. This is the red/yellow wire from with in the loom.
Insulate the joins and put either a 10 or 15 amp fuse in.
Connect together the remaining wires so it would go, white/black from the drivers
side to white/black on the passenger side. Do this for all 4 wires.
Now you will need to take a spur from the wire that connects both the violet wires
together, this needs to be near to the multiplug that the central locking loom uses to interface with the car.
You can now either terminate this into a pin and push it into the plug if the other side
has nothing there (PATS and heated front screens also connect here so check it out.)
If the plug is full you will have to make sure the wire is long enough to reach the fuse box.
If you chose the option to plug it into the plug, you will need to make another length of
wire again long enough to reach the fuse box but be terminated in a connector to fit the plug.
Refit the door looms and the under dash loom and secure it up tight ready for the next stage,
which is the heated part of the mirror.
With that done you now need to connect up the heated part of the mirrors,
the fuse box will have to be removed from the dash for this to be completed,
simply remove the cover, undo the 2 screws and push it back.
With the box out it needs to be separated into the two parts, the relay board and the fuse board.
The heating element will only work if you have the rear window de mister on, you will need to tap into that.
With the fuse and relay boards still separate, you need to identify the relay for the rear window.
This is relay I = Heated rear window located to the back left of the relay board,
usually Yellow but can also be grey in colour.
From underneath you will need to find the thin black/blue wire and solder or crimp the wire to it.
This thin black/blue wire is the feed from the switch so it is the low current draw compared to
the thicker wires that draw way too much power and could cause the glass to crack.
Your new wire will either go direct to the mirror loom or be trminated into a pin to be
pushed into the central locking plug as previously mentioned.
Refit the fuse box and trims and fit the actual mirrors them selves to the car.
Refitting is the same as removal as described in the beginning of this guide but
once they are bolted in place you need to connect the mirrors to the door wiring looms,
taking note that the drivers' side has an additional plug for the switch.
Plug it in and flick the switch to the right and mess with the knob until
you find the right position for the mirror and then flick it to the left
and adjust the passenger side mirror then simply turn it back to the centre where it becomes off.
You will now need to either get hold of a set of mk3.5 interior panels or modify the mk4 items to fit;
although these don't fit right they are acceptable.
As you can see below the plates are the complete wrong shape so do require cutting.
To get the right shape you need to remove the door card and place the trim on the
door and hold the door card up to it and draw the edge of the card on to the plastic.
Use a dermal or saw to cut the line. If you have done it right it wont require any more cutting.
Refit the door card and it should fit correctly but it will leave a small gap at the top of the door card.
Do exactly the same for the passenger side
And bobs your uncle
Refit all the trims that you removed, and sit back and enjoy your handy work.
