A little luxury that you wont find in any fiesta of the mk3 age unless you were special and opted for them from new,
In this guide we will show you how to install electric, heated mirrors into the mk3 fiesta,
you will need parts from both a mk3 and mk4 fiesta, possibly even mk5's.
It's fairly straightforward honest
This guide is for the fiesta that has the electric window switches in the centre console, not the Doors.
There is a variation of this guide for the newer style loom.
Tools Needed:
screwdrivers (Various)
Socket set
Soldering equipment
knife
Dremal
Parts needed:
Mk4/5 Electric, heated mirrors
Mk4/5 Door looms and part of the car loom
Mk4/5 Interior trim plates
Mk4/5 Electric mirror switch
Mk3.5 manual mirror exterior bases and cases

Lazy?
Well yes!

All MK3's With Manual Mirrors
Firstly lets start off with making the electric mirrors suitable for fitting to the mk3 fiesta.
Assuming that you have the later mk3.5 mirrors fitted to your car you will need to remove these from the car,
by taking off the door cards, removing the interior trim from the mirror and take out the 3 fixing bolts
while holding the mirror from the outside so it doesn't drop.
With the mirror from the car you will need to remove the base plate,
this is done by separating the case from the base, like you would when you push the mirrors in to get in a tight space.
Looking at the back of the mirror, where the adjuster is, there is a small screw that holds the
internals to the base. Remove this screw and release the claw type clip on the internals from the base,
you will have to wiggle it about to get it free but it can be done.
Do the exact same for the mk4/5 electric mirrors and simply swap the plates over
and re-screw them back down, so you are left with the mk4 internals onto the mk4 base plates.
As you can see there are a difference with the base plates due to ford redesigning the doors.
The left pic is the mk4 and the middle is the mk3.5, notice the point is rounded on the mk4 item.
If on your mk3.5 mirrors you have the colour-coded shells you will need to get
them off and swapped over to the mirrors.
To do this you will need to remove the mirror glass by putting your fingers inside
the casing on the end opposite to the base plate and using your finger,
simply push the retaining clips in and pop the glass out.
With the glass out you will notice 3 little screws that go through the internals to the case,
remove these and also remove the one from the end between the case and base.
Then wiggle the case free.
Repeat the above for the electric one but take note that there will be 2 wires behind the
glass that will need to be disconnected,
and you will be left with just the internals from the mirror like below.
Screw the electric part to the base and wiggle the case back on and secure tightly,
replace the glass making sure you connect the 2 wires up.
Repeat this for the other mirrors.
Wiring Up
With the mirrors now built up you can start on the wiring, here's where it starts for real.
You will need to get a door loom from a mk4/5 fiesta that has the electric mirrors and remove
all the door wiring including the rubber pipe and part of the wiring from inside the car.
The part of the door loom that you are looking for is like the pic below where
it has a 6 pinned multiplug and the wiring for the speakers.
Proceed to look at this wiring and remove the plastic covers, then pull away the rubber from the pipe/connector
With the rubber pulled away you now need to remove the following wires from the plug,
but first the white stopper need to be remove, simply push a screwdriver into the letterbox shaped holes,
twist and pull up and it should come apart. Using a small flat screwdriver,
prise the plastic away from the metal pins and pull the wires down and out.

You will then be left with the loose wires that can be pulled out from the pipe.
Notice that the black wire was not connected to any pin, this is the earth
and will also need to be removed. Start to strip back the black tape as far
as it needs to go to enable you to get the wires out and follow the black wire
to where it joins the rest of the black wires and cut it out.
Now move onto the inner part of the loom and especially the plugs and the little wires you left on.
Using the same tables and methods as above you need to remove the wires required
And here are the wires required from both sides
Take one side at a time and start to extend each wire by about 40cm so that it is long enough
to reach from inside the door to under the dash. Stagger the joins so they are less bulky
and make sure you still have the metal ends intact. Repeat for the other side
Remember the earth (black) wire? Yes, well it needs to be terminated into a ring terminal.
The door looms will be connected to the loom under the dash by the means of a set of ford plugs,
these plugs will need to have their original pins removed, by using the method above.
The plug with the pins in will accept the pined side of the wiring that you removed from the mk4 car loom earlier,
take a note of where they go for when you need to connect the other side up later. Repeat this for the other side.
Put these plugs under the dash at each side of the car with the plug with the more wires being on the drivers' side.
Get some more wire and cut it long enough so that the wires, all bar the orange/yellow wire can be joined from one side to the other,
stagger and solder these in place making sure you heat shrink or insulate the joins.
From the drivers door side plug you will need to extend the orange/yellow wire long enough so it will reach the fuse box.
This wire will then need to be soldered to one of the wires coming from the mk4/5/6 aux fuse holder you got earlier.
Then the other wire can be extended if needed and terminated into a female spade connector and insulated.
(Same as in the picture below but with out the piggy back)
From about 30cm in from the drivers' door you will need to take a spur from the wire that connects
the violet/orange and violet/black together and run this up with the power wire above to the fuse box.
This needs to be the same length as above to the end of the connector but does not need to be terminated in a connection.
That's the entire loom making done, Shown below is the new loom. now you need to fit it all
That's the entire loom making done, now you need to fit it all
Start off with fitting the door looms,
Remove the rubber pipe from the door/A pillar and push a coat hanger/stiff wire/tie wrap up
into it so it can be grabbed in the door and tape the wires to the end of it and gently pull
this through so the wires are out. And push them through the hole in the A pillar and replace the rubber pipe.
The door looms will need to be earthed and this is done by removing the bolt from the
electric window motor and placing the ring terminal over the thread and tightening it down.
Lay the interior loom down in the car making sure that the end with the fuse on is to the drivers' side of the car.
Get the plug from the loom in your hand and plug in the empty connector. Using the wire colours on the loom as a guide,
simply click each wire from the door loom into place making sure the colours match.
With them all in place, unplug the 2 plugs and push the red bung back in. repeat for the other side.
With that done you now need to connect up the power and heated part of the mirrors,
the fuse box will have to be removed from the dash for this to be completed,
simply remove the cover, undo the 2 screws and push it back.
With the box out it needs to be separated into the two parts, the relay board and the fuse board.
You need to be looking at the relay half and identify the positive bus bar that runs through the middle
of the relay board, it will have loads of red wires coming from it(middle of picture the silver bit.)
you will need to plug the power wire onto this using the connection you crimped on.
The last connection that needs to be made is for the heater element and as the heater will
only work if you have the rear window de mister on, you will need to tap into it.
With the fuse and relay boards still separate, you need to identify the relay for the rear window.
This is relay I = Heated rear window located to the back left of the relay board, usually Yellow or grey in colour.
From underneath you will need to find the thin black/blue wire and solder or crimp the wire to it.
This thin black/blue wire is the feed from the switch so it is the low current draw compared
to the thicker wires that draw way too much power and could cause the glass to crack.
Fit a 10 or 15 amp fuse in the holder and that's all the wiring done and all that's
left to do is to refit the fuse box and trims and fit the actual mirrors them selves to the car.
Refitting is the same as removal as described in the beginning of this guide but once
they are bolted in place you need to connect the mirrors to the door wiring looms,
taking note that the drivers' side has an additional plug for the switch.
Plug it in and flick the switch to the right and mess with the knob until you find
the right position for the mirror and then flick it to the left and adjust the passenger
side mirror then simply turn it back to the centre where it becomes off.
You will now need to either get hold of a set of mk3.5 interior panels or modify the mk4 items to fit;
although these don't fit right they are acceptable.
As you can see below the plates are the complete wrong shape so do require cutting.
To get the right shape you need to remove the door card and place the trim on the
door and hold the door card up to it and draw the edge of the card on to the plastic.
Use a dermal or saw to cut the line. If you have done it right it wont require any more cutting.
Refit the door card and it should fit correctly but it will leave a small gap at the top of the door card.
Do exactly the same for the passenger side
And bobs your uncle
Refit all the trims that you removed, and sit back and enjoy your handy work.
