Here's a nice little guide to do on a rainy afternoon.
In this guide we show you how to change the illumination colour in the Electric Window Switches.
Tools Needed:
Soldering iron and stand,
Solder,
Helping hand or crocodile clips.
Small flat bladed screwdrivers
File or Sand Paper
470ohm resistors (Maplin.co.uk code: M470R)
Blue 3mm 5Volt LED's (Maplin.co.uk code: N31BY)

Let there be light!
|
Bit of Blue
Goooo Onnnn!
Applies to:
Electric Window switches from door pods
|
|
First off
You will need to remove the switches from the door pods, one on the passenger
side and two on the drivers' side.
To do this you must insert a small flat bladed screwdriver under the edges and prise up.
Unclip the multi-plug and remove the switch, repeat for all.
|
|
Open it up.
Once on your workstation you can proceed to open the switch up,
this is done by inserting a small flat screwdriver into the edge of the
switch in the position of the four dimples or notches. Then gently pull
apart and set the top half of the switch to one side.
|
|
You will now notice that the LED looks strange, Yes? Well no, its just been filled flat.
Take your new LED and file the top off, it wont hurt its operation.
Once done, identify the positive leg and bend it to mimic the original LEDs leg.
Do the same for the negative leg.
|
|
You will notice the resistor already there, you will need to replace this with
a new one to ensure you don't over volt the new LED. Again mimic the positions
of the legs of the resistor.
Now cut the old LED and resistor out and lay the new one in place and hold them
there with the crocodile clips,
Solder the negative leg of the LED to the relevant pin, this will then secure the led.
Solder the resistor to the positive leg of the switch,
Now solder the other leg of the resistor to the positive leg of the LED where they overlap.
Cut off any excess wire or legs that may be there just to tidy it up and to
make sure there would be no short circuits.
|
|
Put the switch back together, this will only go one way, as there is a small
triangular cut out on one side. Ensure all four catches click in place.
Plug it in and turn on the sidelights, it should illuminate blue, if not,
you must have soldered the LED in backwards.
Check to see if the switch operated the window, there is no reason why it
wouldn't, as you did not touch any of the operating contacts.
As you can see they look quite effective and different from the normal green ones,
You can use what ever colour LED's you want to perform this modification not
just blue and red.

|
|
That's the end of this little guide, simple yet effective.

Hope this guide is of some help.
