Factory fitted ford radio's are fine and dandy for a put you on untill you get a decent head unit.
But here's where the problems start, as ford use thair own connectors that no aftermarket head unit uses.
Below are some useful images and diagrams to show how you what wires are what and where they should match up.
This information is also useful if the radio harness has been mutilated!
Tools Needed:
Non really unless you are repairing a damaged loom

Thats quite handy
|
|
Asuming that the radio is out of the car its time to look at the factory fitted wiring.
There will be, or should be two connectors there, one black and one yellow.
The black is the control and the yellow is the speakers.
|
|
Lets take a closer look at the connector and the wires assosiated with it.

Pin 5: brown/yellow is not always there on some models. mine do not have this and the
Haynes manual says nothing about it.
it does not match up with any pin on the ISO.

Now lets have a look at an ISO connector.
ISO is the standard connector for all new head units.
For some reason, Ford do not use this type of connection, if they did it would be alot easier
|
|
Using the picture and diagram above you can identify the correct wires needed to install your new head unit.
Look at the plug from the face side. Below are the pin outs.
Sometimes the two plugs are connected together, sometimes they are not.

From the above information, the ISO plug can be connected correctly if the loom has been completely ruined.(some soldering required)
If the loom and plugs are still intact,
why not just go to a auto electric shop and buy a ready made converter harness.
Simply plug it in and you have an ISO without the hassle.
|
|
The information given above will give you the end result of a factory ISO plug.
PLEASE consult the manual that comes with the new head unit as the harness
provided with it will need to be altered in acordance to the instructions
re: the 12v supply for memory functions. this is different from Manufacturer to Manufacturer.

Hope this information is of some help.
