Service, Service
Yup
Here is your engine bay, this is a HCS engine, it comes in 1.0, 1.1 and 1.3 versions
First you will need to get the car to running temperature,
Turn the car off and pour the tin of engine flush into the oil filler,
replace the cap and re start the car and fast idle at 2k revs for
15 mins to allow the flush to circulate around the engine.
While the car is still warm, jack up the front and support it on axle stands.
Remove the oil drain plug and catch all the hot oil in a bowl.
Make sure you keep hold of the plug or you will have to go fishing in the oil, not nice I tell thee
Remove the oil filter from the back of the block, try and twist by hand, if that fails, force a screwdriver into it and turn to loosen it and finish off by hand.
Let the oil drip out of the fitting and clean it ready for the new filter.
Get your new filter and fill it with new oil and make sure the rubber lip is lubricated with the oil
Screw the new filter on hand tight; don't use any tools as this could damage the filter
Replace the nylon washer on the sump plug,
clean it and the sump and tighten it back in.
Refill the engine with fresh oil, it should take about..L to fill,
don't over fill it as the oil pressure will become wrong ands cause problems.
Check under the car for leaks.
Replace the cap then lower the car back to the ground.
Now you need to make the car breathe right, new air filter time.
Start off by removing the 3 screws on top of the bin lid, sorry air filter housing,
then the spring clips from around the edge.
Lift the lid off and you can see the old filter and all the muck inside.
Remove the muck and discard the filter. Then fit the new filter along with the lid.
Now the fuel filter,
This is totally optional and may differ from carb to injection.
Injection has the filter mounted under the battery tray.
Carb doesn't have a filter, hence why ive fited one.
Simply an inline with 2 jubilee clips
Cut the fuel intake pipe, push on a jubilee clip then the filter,
jubilee cli then pipe, make sure they are both tight and also
the flow indicator is going the right way.
The spark plugs are now next,
Make sure the engine is off and the keys are out as you don't want some one to
turn the car over and give you a electric shock.
Pull off the HT leads on the plugs one by one.
They are numbered so if you get lost you can figure it out.
Use a special spark plug socket with a rubber grip inside so the plug wont fall out.to remove the plug
Insert the new plugs making sure you don't over tighten them
Replace the wiper blades making sure you put the one with the spoiler on the drivers side.
Check your tire condition and pressure and that's it, your car has been serviced
Keep an eye on the fluid levels and safe driving
Also remember to dispose of your old oil safely at your local tip.
Hope this guide helps you keep your car in good working order.
