Here's a nice little guide to do on a rainy afternoon.

In this guide we show you how to change the illumination colour in the Heater pannel to compliment the White face guide.

Tools Needed:

Soldering iron and stand,
Solder,
Helping hand or crocodile clips.
Small flat bladed screwdrivers
470ohm resistors (Maplin.co.uk code: M470R)
Blue 5mm 5Volt LED's (Maplin.co.uk code: N24BY)

Blue light!

Bit of Blue

Goooo Onnnn!

Applies to:
Mk3 and Mk3.5 Heater Illumination

While sat in the car , you must remove the heater control dial and the slider knobs,
this is done by gently pulling them towards you.
now using a small screwdriver, prise out the control pannel from the left hand side.
disconnecting the bulb holder from behind by twisting it.

controls controls

Look at the bulb holder, the Bulb just slots into it and is kept there by the contact pins
gently pull the bulb whilst holding the holder frimly.
They should now come apart and look simalar to the ones below.

bulb Holder

Using the bulb as a guide for the size of the bulb holder,
cut a peice of strip board or vera-board to the same size exactly to the bulb.
If you have done this correctly there should be four copper tracks on the piece.

Take the piece of board and remove the middle two copper tracks, you only nee the two exterior ones.
Take an LED and bend the legs so that they are touching the copper tracks, and the lens of the LED is at the end of the board.
cut the positive leg of the LED short and solder the resistor to this leg.
On the non-copper tracked side, put a small amount of heatshrink on the
positive leg and bend the legs of the led and resistor to poke through the board. making sure the LED is flat against the board.
Solder these to the tracks and snip off the excess
Flip the board over and do the same as above but solder the legs to the tracks without poking the legs through.
Also make sure that the positive on this side is the same as the other side.
Secure the LEDs to the board with Hot glue from a glue gun.

The board may need to be trimmed slightly to fit into the holder, do this by fileing it down,
Clean the debris off and insert into the holder.
Take NOTE that the positive wire is the Grey/Yellow one in the ford wiring,
If the LED does not work, simpley pull it out of the holder and turn it around.

LED

Thats basically it, you can use any colour you want, not just blue.

Put the holder back into the heater control and put that back into the car,
remembering to put the controls back on.

The Picture does not do it justace it is much brighter and covers all the front when on.

blue

That's the end of this little guide, simple yet effective.

Hope this guide is of some help.
