When you buy a lower spec Fiesta you may notice that there is no start, stop (intermittent)front wiper
this is a pain if it's only spitting outside, and all you have is slow,fast and stop speeds.
In this guide we show you how to install an intermittent wiper system using genuine ford parts.
Tools Needed:
Socket Set
Torx bit set
Screw Drivers
Knife
Wire cutters/strippers
Soldering Equipment
Insulation Tape

Wiper Stalk

Go to a scrap yard,
Find a fiesta with an intermittent option on the stalk (push down)
Remove the steering column shroud upper and lower,
lower has torx screws and
upper has 2 pozzi on the top and a further 2 under the shroud.
If the car has a manual choke, depress the button on the side with a screwdriver
and remove the handle, then twist the locking nut off and remove.
With the above removed unplug the multi-plugs from the switch
then remove the
wiper/indicator stalks by un doing the single screw on the top.
Pull the switch assembly upwards and set aside. You need this!
Look at the plug on the right hand side, the one that is for the wiper,
in the top there is a red bung type thing, prise that out with a small flat screw driver.
Now the contacts are exposed, locate the ones for the Brown with yellow strip
and the black with green strip.
DON'T just pull them out or the connectors will be damaged
Gently push a small screwdriver down each side of the contact while gently
twisting to release the barbs. When release pull them out.
Cut open the loom all the way back down to the fuse box removing just these 2 wires.
These 2 wire will go into the fuse box and connect to a red large relay,
relay II, remove it and keep it.
Take note of the pin/connector positions on the plug.
Using the same principles as mentioned above for removing the connectors,
remove all the connections from the relay socket.
Also remove the small plastic thing that the relay sits in, it looks like a T shape.
This is done by prising the 2 clips down and pulling the T upwards.
You will also notice that there are another 2 wires going to one connector,
remove these as described above and chase the wires as far as possible up the loom,
then cut them both.
That's all the removal bit done.
Now to fit to your car.
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY PLEASE AS YOU ARE PLAYING WITH ELECTRICS!!
Remove the shroud and switch as mentioned above. Open the connector,
like above and push the wires into the connector in the same
position as they came out of the donor car.
Find the brown wire with the white strip and cut it as far away
from the connector as possible, Now do you remember that connector
from the relay that has the two brown with white wires in it,
solder one of these wires to one end of the cut wire and the other wire to the other cut end.
Insulate the joins with your preferred method.
Tape all wires together and tie wrap them to the rest of the loom all
the way to the fuse box.
Open the fuse box and push the cables through until they get to the relay position.
Push the wires through the holes and into the plastic T shape,
now do you see why you needed it.
Using the diagram you drew when you removed
them from the donor car.
With all the connectors in place gently push the T down into the relay board until it clicks.
Put the relay in the correct way around and be sure to put
its support tag in as well. This stops the relay from coming out due to its size.
Put the wiper stalks back on and screw them down and ensure the red bung
is in the connector, then connect the plugs to the back of the stalks.
Re connect the battery and test the wiper by pushing the stalk down,
it should come on then wait 5 or so seconds and start again,
test all the other functions of the stalks to ensure they work,
Put all the steering column shroud back on and screw the fuse box back
to the dash and now the job is finished.
