First off you need the heated window-wiring loom, you can either buy it new
from ford or get it from Ebay or scrap yard.
Below is the price of the items new.
Switch 6200512 £14.61
Relay 6143397 £8.87
Loom 6929967 £34.77
Glass 7108842 £189.57
Total cost £247.82
As you can see it's very expensive! But the bulk of that is the screen.
If you buy it from Ebay or second hand you may get it as part of another central locking loom,
but usually its been stripped out.
Below is a picture of a stripped out loom
The loom comprises of a relay holder, 2 fuse holders, switch connector,
2 screen connectors and a power plug, along with 3 other wires, which are,
Illumination for switch, earth and alternator supply.
These 3 wires would normally be connected to the central locking loom.
Lets start off with a diagram of what is what and where it goes.
Ideally you would need to remove the central locking loom to attach the following loose wires back on.
Start with the illumination wire , this needs to be connected to the central locking loom,
simply take off the insulation tape and strip a small section of
the grey/yellow wire in the loom and solder the wire to it.
(on the picture it looks red but I had to extend the wire)
Now move onto the earth wire, again this needs splicing onto the loom.
When this is done, insulate the joins.
Now the final loose wire should be a blue one, this should be long enough to
reach to the central locking plug and simply plug in.
If there is no wire to match this on the main car side of the loom you will need
to take a wire from pin 2 from behind the instrument panel, see the rev
counter-fitting guide to remove the dials.
Show below is the dial plug and pin2 is on the left hand side.
With all the loose wires connected you can now fit the relay holder to the side of the fuse box,.
This is done by dropping the fuse box from the dash. Simply click the relay holder onto the side of the box.
With that in place, its time to fit the relay into the socket.
Push it in, it will only go one way and fit the safety catch.
Now its time for the fuse holders, using the same method as above you need to
clip the white holders to the side of the box,
if you already have a holder for the boot release, just clip these two to it.
The final major connection to make is the power, this is done behind the radio
and you are looking for a plug with 2 red wires coming from it with large pins in it.
This may not be there on base models.
Push the loom into this connection and your done.
If there is no plug here you will need to connect the loom direct to the battery terminal via a 30-amp fuse.
Remove the two side air vents to gain access to the wiring loom there.
Then remove the A pillar trims at the side of the windscreen.
Push the window connectors up past the air vent into the corners of the dash where it will
connect to the windscreen, make sure that you clip the wiring up securely here as
not to make any strain on the glass connectors. Repeat for the other side
Remove the centre facia with the heater controls on and feed the grey plug into the far left hole.
Connect the switch and push it home into the slot. And refit the facia
Now the last thing to do is to make sure that all the loom is securely attached under the dash to stop any strain.
Then you need to either fit the heated glass or get someone professional to fit it for you.
(I haven't done this yet, I have just completed the wiring)
Most of the cars structure is in the windscreen so I recommend a pro fit it.
Once it has been installed simply plug the loom into the lower section of the
glass and earth the upper onto the A-pillar via the tabs provided with the glass.
(On the pic it will be in the hole shown)
Then refit any removed trim.
And that’s it the end of the guide, I hope you find it useful.
Enjoy
