Now lets get started

Firstly, you will need to remove your door card.

This is done by unscrewing the screws holding the plastic mouldings onto the door.
The position of these screws is shows on the picture below

locks

With all the scres removed and the plastic moulding taken off you can now slowly
pull away the door card to reveal the metal inside to the door

You will now be able to see the locking mechanism,
the area to look is shown on the picture below

locks

You will then need to remove the clip holding the lock to the door.
This clip is 'U' shaped and will either needed to be pulled up or down,
depending on how it was last assembled

This motion is shown on the below picture

locks

Next you will have to remove the metal bar attached to the lock from the plastic clipping.
This clip is again shown in the below picture

locks

This being done, the lock should be able to be removed by going to the outside
of the door and slowly wiggling out the lock. The little metal bar should still be attached at this point.

locks

You can now disconnect the metal bar from the lock and then reattach it to your new lock

locks

As the haynes manual states, to reassemble do ther same steps but backwards

This involves pushing the lock, with the metal bar attached, back into the door from the outside

Then reapplying the clip, making sure the bent end of the bar is in the hole at the bottem of the clip.
This little hole is shown in the next picture

locks

Now reapply the 'U' shaped clip, making sure that it is nice a tight

It should now look something like this:

locks

Now put the door cards back on and screw on all the plastic mouldings and enjoy having a new door lock

Now move onto the boot lock.

Start by popping the boot and remove the black plastic trim that covers the boot.

locks

If you look up you will notice a metal plate with a bolt on it.
you will need to remove the bolt, use a 10mm socket to do this.

locks

Use a screwdriver to prise the plate to the side. This plate is what holds
the lock inplace like the 'U' clip from the front doors.

Be carfull not to damage the paintwork or your self as it is sharp.

locks

Start to pull up the door lock from outside, start to gently turn the lock in
your hand as you pull up. this is to release the connecting rod.

locks locks

Then pull the lock free of the boot lid.

Put the new lock in as above but reversed.

locks

The ignition barrel is next on the list, fairly easy to do.

Start by removing the upper and lower steering colum plastic, screws 4 under and 4 above

locks

Then remove the multifunction switches by taking out the single screw on the top.

locks

Pull up the switch enough to gain access to the top of the ignition barrel.

locks

Insert the key and turn it to position 2 (II) and press a screw driver or screw
or some kind of pointy device into the small hole on top of the housing.

Now pull out the barrel, it may be stiff so take care.

locks

Below is the barrel, notice the tab that you pushed down, this needs to be at the
top when you put the new barrel in. Also again the key needs to be in the position of 2(II).

Refit the barrel and surround as above but reversed.

The last thing to change is the petrol cap lock.

Start off by removing your old petrol cap and flip it over to see the end which has a circlip or E clip.

locks locks

Remove the key and push down the tappered plastic bit to gain access to the E or C clip on the end.

Use a flat screwdriver and prise off the clip, making sure you dont loose it.

locks locks

Tap out the lock barrel from the plastic cap.

make sure the seal comes out with it as you may need to put this on the new lock.

replace the new lock as above but reversd, making sure you refit
the clip to the end, otherwise the lock will fall out.

The End

And that's it, done, now you will have 1 key that will work all the locks.

Please note that the mk3.5 locks are different in both fitting and size.
Also there will be a section on the PATS system.
This will be covered in another guide in the future.

Hope this guide is of some use to somebody out there.
