Here we have the first of the mk5 fiesta guide, yes that's right mk5 fiesta guide.
Its nice and simple and is quite effective, especially in the dark winter nights.
As most mk5 fiestas have half an electric pack fitted on the lower spec.
they tend to just have the central locking, no electric windows or mirrors, and lastly no remote locking.
This is where this guide comes in! Fitting an aftermarket remote control kit for the central locking.
Some people said why not go all the way and install an alarm system that incorporates
the remote locking function; well the car came with an immobiliser and alarm already fitted so it wasn't needed.
Tools Needed:
screwdrivers (Various)
Socket set
Sharp Knife
Soldering Equipment
Wire Cutters/Strippers
Lighter
Insulation Tape
Remote Locking Kit

Applies to:
All MK5's with no remote
I used the Toad RK30 module for this guide but it's the same or similar method for any other remote module.
Start of by locating the drivers side kick panel/trim and undo the large plastic screw ,
the best way to undo this is to use a small coin such as a 2p.
Next move a bit further down the trim until you get to a small circle. These are locating pins and need to be removed.
The best way is to use a small screwdriver into the little notch and prise upwards.
Gently pull the trim off, this is done by placing your hand under the end and tug,
whilst prising it up with a screwdriver under the edge.
Once the trim is loose you will be able to see and gain access to the wiring loom that enters the door.
Now move up to the dashboard and locate the cover for the fuse box and remove it,
simply pull it off. This will expose the screws that hold the box to the under side of the dash.
Remove these screws and push the fuse box out.
You may have noticed that the fuse box looks different to the mk3 variant,
mainly the lack of relays stand out.
These have now been moved to the aux fuse box inside the engine bay.
Turn the fuse box over and remove the protective backing by un hooking
it and you will be greeted with this spiders web of wires.
Looks daunting doesn't it , don't worry its not. No really lol.
Separate the two halves of the fuse box from each other by inserting a small flat
screwdriver into the tabs on the side and prise out taking care not to snap them.
You should be left with a sight like this.
Most remote locking kits require two sources of power, one a fuse permanent live and one switched live.
Now we will look at the permanent live wire.
You need to identify fuse 22 this is the one with the orange/Black wires coming from it.
Tap into this wire and solder it to make it a secure connection.
Now move onto the ignition live feed wire, this is from fuse 19 and the wire is Blue/Black in colour.
Again as above tap into and solder the wire from the locking module and insulate both wires with insulation tape.
Now you need to gain access to the wires that give a signal to the indicators,
this may or may not be a function on your remote kit. If so the easiest part to
gain access to these wires are in the steering column shroud.
You will need to remove the six screws 4 bottom and 2 top form the shroud,
with the ignition key out, gently pull the plastic down on the bottom and push
the top up and keep them in a safe place.
This will expose the steering column and the wiring plugs behind the indicator stalks.
Look to the rear of the on the left hand side indicator stalk,
there is a multiplug behind it, this is where you will need to connect the indicator feed from the module.
Push in the tab on the plug and rotate the plug upwards and release it from the indicator stalk.
Now you need to identify the two indictor feed wires on the plug.
These are located to the top of the plug, top being the hook end.
These wires are blue and blue/red.
Run the two indicator feed wires from the module to the end of the plug and proceed
to bare some of the wire from the ford wiring, then solder the module wire to it.
Repeat this for the other wire making sure that you insulate the joins with insulation tape, any colour you want.
Reconnect the plug and move back down to the sill panel and locate the earth wire(s) from the module,
these need to be long enough to reach the existing earth point under the plastic trim.
Terminate the wire into a eye ring connector and secure it under the existing earth point,
use an 8mm socket to remove the screw and replace it.
Now the last set of wires to be connected from the module are the two that control the locking and unlocking of the doors.
PLEASE NOTE:
The mk3 fiesta uses NEGATIVE Locking
The mk3.5 fiesta uses NEGATIVE and POSITIVE depending on model
The mk4 fiesta uses NEGATIVE and POSITIVE depending on model
The mk5 fiesta uses POSITIVE locking
Using the information provided above, please set up the module as outlined in the instructions
that are supplied with the module.
From behind the trim you removed at the start you can gain access to the wires you need to tap into.
These wires are, white with green tracer and white with blue tracer.
Strip a small section of the wires and solder the lock wire from the module
to the white/green and the unlock wire to the yellow/blue.
Make sure you insulate the bare wires to avoid a short circuit.
Now with all the wiring out of the way, the module can be secured to the back of the trim.
Simply use double sided sticky pads and make sure you clean the contact area as it will be dirty,
dirty means the thing wont stick and it will make a noise rattling about behind the trim when it falls off.
Notice the single black wire with the red sticker on it? Yes? That's the Arial wire
that receives the signal so separate it away from the rest of the wires to reduce radio interference.
Make sure all the wires are secured and insulated and start to replace the trim,
making sure that you locate the pegs into the holes in the sill. Push down hard till they click in place.
Next up is to replace the plastic bungs you removed from the sill trim,
notice that the bungs have a step cut in them meaning that they will only fit in the hole one way.
These bungs force open the peg on the back of the trim so it wont come off if you
hit it with your feet getting in and out of the car.
And finally put the plastic screw back into the front of the trim and replace
the steering column and the fuse box if you haven't already and there you have it finished,
well if you have a fuse to put in, do so and then you are finished.
Wind down your window just in case and get out then press the lock button and the car should lock.
Press the unlock button and it should unlock whist flashing the indicators for each button press.
