In 1989 when the fiesta s was released there was no XR2I with the extended body kit,
so if people wanted to sport up their fiestas they would have to purchase the
optional RS under bumper kits, these when fitted gave the impression of a
large plastic bumper with no metal or stone chip showing.
They were made out of a rubberised plastic that required colour coding before fitting.
In this guide I will show you how to install the front part of the kit under the rear bumper.
Tools Needed:
Drill and Drill bits
Socket set
Screwdrivers
Parts Needed:
Kit
Screws

First off start by colour coding your kit, I used proper cellulose paint in a compressor
as I wasn't impressed with the finish given by the rattle can.
Once the kit has dried for at least a week as the clear coat will be tacky still, you can start to fit it.
|
|
You will need to clip the kit under the edge of the rear bumper then clip around the sides so that all of the valance is covered.
|
|
When you are happy with the fitment you will need to secure it in the wheel arches using some screws.
Be sure to drill a pilot hole smaller than the screw size through the plastic and then through the metal.
Do this two times per arch; this will be sufficient to hold the kit in place in the wheel arch.
|
|
Now you will need to remove the front bumper so you can secure the kit under it.
2 screws per wheel arch and 2 13mm nuts inside the engine bay hold it in place.
Prise away the bumper from each wheel arch taking care not to damage the kit below it.
Pull the bumper free and place to one side.
With the bumper off you can see where the kit is supposed to fit,
use your drill again and drill two holes per little side part.
|
|
Repeat the above but 3 or 4 times for the centre section of the kit.
Install the screws taking care not to over tighten them.
|
|
Refit and retighten the bumper.
Stand back and admire your work
