In this guide I will show you how to fit the optional RS Side skirts that were
available as a special order accessory from ford on the early mk3 fiestas.
The skirts were available to fit both the 3 and 5 door variants of the car.
These were to compliment the upper and lower RS spoilers and the RS front and rear bibs.

Please don't get these skirts confused with the RS Turbo and XR2i ones, as they are no way alike.

Tools Needed:

Drill and Drill bits
Socket set
Screwdrivers

Parts Needed:

RS Skirts
Tape
Glue like pink grip or silofix
Screws (Self Tapping)
Touch up paint

Start off by making sure the skirt fits properly, at this stage you will notice its not colour coded,
this is for a good reason, so if you drop it, it wont damage the paint and if you slip with the drill same again.

Offer up the skirt to the sill on the car making sure that the RS logo is
facing to the front of the car and the little notch is into the lip on the wing and rear arch

kit

Unless your skirts are brand new there will be holes from the previous car mounts,
in most cases these will be in the right place so you can just drill through to mark the metal.
When drilling keep the skirt as close to the body as you can to eliminate gaps.

Drill and screw the front, notice on this picture the screw is in a different hole
as the previous wing was odd. Pull the skirt a little to ensure its grabbed.

The front is now secure, move to the rear and secure that, you may find it easier to jack
the car up and remove the wheel to give a little more room.

Remove the screws from the rear and pull the skirt away from the sill and look at the
lip on the reverse of the skirt and then mark the sill at the bottom of the lip.
This is so you know where to fix the mounting bar.
Do this at the front as well.
Now completely remove the skirt from the car and place to one side.

Get some one to help you for this part, as it can be tricky.
Start at one end and place the mounting strip up to the line you marked and drill the sill,
use a screw to secure it and work along the sill to the other end. Securing as you go.

kit kit

Offer up the skirt now and see if it clips over the bar, if it does then your ready to go,
if not you need to make adjustments to the bar,
simply elongate the holes in the plastic and slide the bar in which ever direction is needed.

kit

Now the fitting is done you can colour code the skirts, use the colour coding guide
to help you out if you haven't done it before.

kit kit

Run a bead of sealant or glue down the lip between the sill and the mounting clip.

kit kit

Clip the skirt onto the sill cleaning any excess glue away then screw the ends to the arches to make them secure.

kit kit

There you have it, one side done, now do the other side
