I had a spoiler and a brake light laying around in my shed
i wondered if it would fit inside the spoiler, so i decided that i must try it.

so in this guide i will show you how to modify the spoiler to accept the light.

Tools Needed:

Screwdrivers
Knife
Coloured Cell/plastic
Double sided tape
Dremal
Drill and Bits

Yeah

First remove your spoiler if you havn't done already.
If you need to remove it you will need to drill out the 2 rivots and undo
the 4 nuts behind the blanking plates within the boot.

3rd brakeLight

now the spoiler is off , you need to look at the 3rd brake light and dismantle it. this depends on your model.
With this one all that was holding it together was 3 screws.

now you can see the LED board. thats what you are after.

light LED

Place the LED board onto the spoiler edge and draw araound it.
Usin a SHARP knife, cut on the line as deep as you can to define the edge.
Now use the Dremal or other tool to carve out the rubber, just deeper than the LED's.

You hit a white substance, it's the fibreglass core, as soon as you do,
please wear a mask to avoid inhaling the dust.

marked out rough cut

Once cut deep enough use a long drill bit and drill a hole for the wires to go into the boot lid.
the hole will imerge on the face of the spoiler that contacts the boot lid.
Insert the LED strip, making sure the wire goes down the hole, pull it gently and seat the board in the hole.
If you cut it tight you will not need to secure the board.

final cut LED

Cut a little recess on the edges to hold the cover plate.
I had to make a cover from plastic as the cover that came with the light was the wrong shape.

The new cover was cut from a thin piece of plastic and a bit of red
cell/plastic was stuck to it to give it a more red colour. at each end a small hole was cut and countersunk to accept the securing screws.
Screw into place and thats the spoiler finished.

This plastic can also be tinted black to match the spoiler, which may look better.

recess red

Put the spoiler up against the car and mark where the cable will enter the boot,
drill an apropriate sized hole and put a grommet in it and feed the cable
through it and coax it towards the rubber pipe from the boot to the car body with a wire coat hanger.
If no washer jet is there you can also use that hole.

pipe

Bolt the spoiler onto the boot and re- rivot it down using ford plastic rivots.
rout the cable through the rubber pipe into the car body, remove the boot rubber
and gently pull down the headlining slightly and rout the wires down the pillar
into the boot behind the trims to the light cluster..
Using the haynes manual Identify the positive (black / red) and neagative (Brown) breaking circuits and either solder or
scoth block onto these wires at the cluster, with either method, make sure the wires are insulated.

Test the light by pressing the foot brake. if working, well done,
if not then the wires will more than likley be the wrong way around, swap them and test again.

In the following guides we will show you how to fit a spoiler if not already fitted,
and how to paint your standard black spoiler to your cars colour.

Hope this guide is of some help.
